mockingbird

Jonny and I have been reading To Kill a Mockingbird (frankly, I have been doing all the reading and Jonny was been doing all the listening) for the last couple of weeks, and we were both sad to have finished it. First, I have to explain that this is my most favorite novel of all time--sure I have read many other books and have loved a lot of them, but this one has never failed me. Like I told Jonny, I have had a long love affair with this magnificent piece of literature. It is full of innocence and child-like curiosity. It is also the the place I met Atticus, Scout, Jem, Dill and Calpurnia and I love them.

As I read the last words of the book, I couldn't hold my tears back. Then Jonny hugging me and asked, "How old will our kids have to be to read it?" That man always knows just how to comfort me and he couldn't have chosen more perfect words. I quietly replied, "When they are twelve or eleven, old enough to understand it."

Then we talked about how one of our kids will be named after someone in the book. We haven't decided who, that is still in the works.

Here's to you Miss. Lee.
